From the stillness of Baltic and Nordic landscapes to the luminous clarity of Australian skies, this program traces a musical journey through light, faith and love.

The radiant simplicity of Arvo Pärt’s Bogoroditse Dyevo and Magnificat and Edvard Grieg’s serene Ave Maris Stella evoke a spirituality both intimate and timeless. From Sweden, Jan Sandström’s exquisite Det är en ros utsprungen (Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming) and Sven-David Sandström’s expressive Four Songs of Love offer moments of quiet radiance and emotional honesty.

At the heart of the program are two deeply moving works for choir and cello — Knut Nystedt’s meditative Stabat Mater and Australian composer Joseph Twist’s poignant Lament — featuring Julian Smiles, one of Australia’s most distinguished cellists. The cello’s voice intertwines with the choir, amplifying the humanity and compassion within each score.

Completing this luminous tapestry are two of the Australian works we commissioned for our 50th anniversary: The Greatest of These by Anne Cawrse and Meta Cohen’s Meteora, offering timely reflections on love and longing.

In Paradisum is a celebration of choral sound at its most radiant — where northern serenity meets southern warmth in music of depth and grace.
